Jennifer Sendros-Keshka, published under the name Jenny Pinkerton, is an interdisciplinary artist and certified art educator. She holds a Master of Arts degree in art education from Boston University, a BFA in fine arts with a minor in art history from the College of New Jersey; and, has taken courses at various institutions including SVA, where she first studied children’s book illustration.
For 6 years, Pinkerton was the sole art educator for approximately 1,000 PreK-5th grade students until she resigned to live out her dream of living in New York City. While in NYC, Pinkerton’s thesis research investigated strategies used by museum educators at the Metropolitan Museum of Art to engage children between 18-months and 3-years old in story time.
Through research and experience, Pinkerton knows that art experiences matter to the cognitive, emotional, and physical development of children. Pinkerton believes that every person possesses creative potential—a notion she hopes to instill in her readers, big and small.
Jenny is a member of SCBWI, the National Art Education Association, and Women Who Write where she serves as a Board Member at Large. In 2019 she co-presented a lecture about Building Student Literacy Through Art Education at the NAEA national conference. In 2020 she was scheduled to present a lecture on the Importance of Play for All Ages as well as a workshop combining art, play, and literacy. However, the NAEA national conference was cancelled.
